Gustav Metzger

In the autumn of 2025, Kunsthal Aarhus will open a major solo show featuring Gustav Metzger (1926–2017). The exhibition will focus on Metzger’s audience-engaging works and his distinctive light installations known as Liquid Crystal Environments.

The exhibition will span all galleries at Kunsthal Aarhus and include an extensive public engagement space in Gallery 1. Works by Metzger will also be displayed in the Sculpture Park outside Kunsthal Aarhus during the exhibition period.

Metzger was a significant figure in experimental art, known for his focus on art’s relationship to catastrophe, the environment and biodiversity, as well as for his deep political engagement.

This exhibition is created in collaboration with The Gustav Metzger Foundation and constitutes the first major presentation of his work in Denmark.
