SKAF - Sammenslutning af Kunstaktører i Aarhus for Flygtninge (SKAF - The Arts Association in Aarhus for Refugees) was founded in March 2022 by some twenty art institutions and art collectives in Aarhus that compose the large section of the professional art scene active in the municipality.
As the first of a series of events taking place throughout 2022 and 2023, SKAF has invited Ukrainian curator Kateryna Radchenko to introduce Danish audiences to the situation of the art and photography scenes in Ukraine. This happens in collaboration with Galleri Image. She will talk about recent works realised by Ukrainian artists and photographers, how her role as curator has changed due to the outbreak of the war, including which artistic means contribute to understand a global crisis caused by warfare.
The event is generously supported by: Photobook Week Aarhus, Galleri ImageKunsthal Aarhus, Aarhus Billedkunstcenter, and Aarhus Kommunes Pulje til Demokrati og Deltagelse.
Biography
Kateryna Radchenko (b. 1984, Odessa, UKR) is the director and curator of Odesa Photo Days Festival in Ukraine. Throughout the heated days of war, Radchenko and her team have acted as aids for international media outlets in Kyiv, supporting photographers who have been endangered, or go to the frontlines as independent artists. Involving photographers working on the frontline and war zone, she is currently working internationally on publications, exhibitions and events aimed at creating opportunities for global audiences to experience Ukrainian visual stories and narratives first hand.
